Betta Care Tips

Here are the seven betta care tips to give you a healthy happy betta. Generally you'll find bettas to be extra easy and not very demanding when it comes to betta care.

Simple Betta Fish
Care Instructions

These betta fish care instructions cover the seven important elements of betta care.

Housing
Bigger is better and those orange-sized "bowls" don't qualify. More water equals better quality water. The perfect home for the adult male betta is a glass container the holds at least a gallon of water with decent surface area. One and a half to two gallons in size is even better. Also remember to keep a lid on it. Bettas are jumpers. Determined jumpers can escape thru the smallest of openings.

Betta Care: Water
Bettas love clean water! Replace their water with aged tap water (do not use distilled water). Use cold tap water only. Then let it sit 24 hours until it reaches room temperature. You might add a teaspoon of aquarium salt for every 2 gallons of water to help prevent disease.

Temperature
While they'll adjust to room temperature water temps of 75-80 degrees are best. Less and you'll notice your fish aren't too active. Usually that means you'll need a heater. Unless you like it tropical. Which can get expensive if you live where it gets cold in the winter.
